  • Christ Church New Southgate and Friern Barnet has ambitious plans to refurbish and extend its historic Grade II listed church buildings.  The church owned a separate vacant hall, surplus to their requirements, which they sold (subject to contract) to a housing developer.  By agreement with the church, CPL were appointed by the housing developer to design a modern 24 dwelling apartment block and obtain detailed planning consent.  The sustainable and energy efficient new development will help address the area’s shortfall of affordable and family sized housing whilst also providing good natural surveillance over the public green opposite, reducing antisocial behaviour and crime for the benefit of the local community.  Proceeds from the sale of the church’s vacant hall, with the benefit of detailed planning consent for residential change of use, will enable the church to fulfil its ambitious and exciting plans for its church site.  This will ensure that the historic church buildings are refurbished and preserved, creating a new multi-purpose community hub which also provides a welcoming new entrance area for the church buildings.
