As part of an Option Study CPL found that demographic studies projected that numbers of children in the area would increase by up to 25% and were likely to be exceeded due to plans to totally redevelop the surrounding residential Estates. The existing Youth Centre, which had been established on the site since 1906 and based in a series of linked houses, was unsuitable for present day youth work and a new facility was planned and subsequently linked to the Southwark Redevelopment plans to regenerate the surrounding housing. The new Youth Centre provides a new 4-badminton court size Sports Hall together with a new performing Arts Centre and club facilities with related accommodation. Funding was assisted by a generous award from Sport England.
