As a local ecumenical partnership, Christ Church New Southgate and Friern Barnet has operated two church halls in recent years. The church has ambitious plans to refurbish and extend its historic Grade II listed church building. One of the church halls is underused and the costs required to continue to run both halls has become unsustainable. CPL has been appointed to optimise the value of underused hall site by obtaining detailed planning approval for a modern and sustainable apartment block. The sustainable and energy efficient new development will help address the area’s shortfall of affordable housing whilst also providing good natural surveillance over the public green opposite, reducing antisocial behaviour and crime for the benefit of the local community. The funds derived from the sale of the land with detailed planning consent will enable the church to fulfil its ambitious and exciting plans for its church site to ensure that the historic buildings are refurbished and preserved, and to construct a new multi-purpose extension to cater for a multitude of community activities and to provide a welcoming new entrance area for the church buildings.
